Longboat Key Club Moorings to Crows Nest, Venice FL

"Island Hopper" left the winter harborage at Longboat Key Club at 11:15 AM. Joan and Ian Downs from Ayr, Scotland arrived at the dock for a three week voyage. Joan and Ian have hosted us on their sailing yacht "Diva" for the past four years. We have sailed with them to Italy Corsica, Greece (twice) and Turkey. It is now our pleasure to serve as their hosts on "Island Hopper". The weather is warm in the high 70's with moderate wind. At 2:00 PM we arrived at Crow's Nest Marina in Venice, Florida. Venice is a small town crisscrosed with canals like the city for which it is named. Venice beaches are good for shell collecting, but they're best known for their wealth of sharks' teeth and fossils, washed up from the ancient shark burial grounds just offshore.
Sharry and Harry Addison, along with their son Stuart, daughter Traci, son-in-law Ty Camacho, and beautiful grand-daughter Caroline Grace joined us for drinks on the boat dinner at the Crow' s Nest. We had a lovely meal in a private room over looking the water.
